CWHI Celebrates Departure of First Monopiles for Inch Cape Offshore Wind Farm

CWHI is proud to announce the departure of the first 8 XXL monopiles for the Inch Cape Offshore Wind Farm. Fabricated at our state-of-the-art Qinzhou Yard, the monopiles were shipped on August 31, 2025 aboard the COSCO vessel “XIAN TAIKOU”, marking a major milestone in one of the UK's most important offshore wind developments.

The shipment is en route to Forth Ports Leith, Scotland, demonstrating CWHI’s capability to deliver world-class offshore wind infrastructure in partnership with leading global logistics providers.

Powering Scotland's Clean Energy Future

Inch Cape Offshore Wind Farm, located 15 kilometers off the Angus Coast, will become one of Scotland's largest offshore wind projects. With a planned capacity of 1.1 GW, Inch Cape will generate renewable electricity equivalent to powering more than half the homes in the country and contributing significantly to the UK's net-zero targets.

Engineering Excellence at Scale

CWHI is entrusted with the delivery of 32 XXL monopiles and 30 transition pieces for the project. Each monopile measures up to 11.5 meters in diameter, 101.3 meters in length, and weighs as much as 2,300 tonnes. The first batch (8 XXL monopiles) demonstrates:

‧World-leading fabrication capacity at Qinzhou Yard, enabling delivery of monopiles of unprecedented size.

‧Uncompromising quality and safety standards applied at every stage of design and manufacturing.

‧Proven track record of on-time delivery for complex offshore structures worldwide.

Driving the Global Energy Transition

The departure highlights CWHI'ss role as a trusted partner in the offshore wind industry and reinforces our mission of advancing the global transition to clean, renewable energy.

“The first shipment of Inch Cape monopiles is a proud achievement for our teams and partners. It reflects not only our technical capabilities but also our dedication to building a sustainable future. We look forward to delivering the remaining monopiles with the same commitment to excellence, safety, and quality,” said Dale Young, Chief Development Officer of CWHI.

CWHI also recognises the contribution of COSCO Shipping for ensuring the safe and timely transport of the first monopiles aboard XIAN TAIKOU. This collaboration underscores the strong partnerships driving success in offshore wind projects worldwide.
